While I wait for the putty on the steam tank to dry, I continue to work on two minor conversions for 15mm Lord of the Rings. As you have seen with Aragorn, Faramir and Saruman, I try to go for the Peter Jackson's movies looks as much as it's possible in 15mm. With Khurasan Orcs and Eureka Man-Orcs (a.k.a. Uruk-Hai) and many Viking/Norman/Late Roman miniatures (read: Rohirrim) available, it's not that hard - but sometimes, even if a certain mini is 'close enough', I want to take it even closer.
Legolas is based on the Splintered Light Miniatures Wood Elf Archer (second miniature from the left). His shoulder pads, shoe tops and gloves were trimmed down and replaced with ones made from putty. These still need some corrections, but even with the elven cloak and webbing still lacking, I'm much closer to The Two Towers look I am aiming for.
Gandalf the Grey (as seen in Moria sequence in Fellowship of the Ring) is based on the Chariot Miniatures wizard from WIZ001 pack. I've modified the end of his wizard staff, added a hand with Glamdring in it and replaced the hat so that it would resemble the movie prop more.
I love the wizard's hat :) Great and inspiring work, well done :)
OdpowiedzUsuńStill a great conversion work. You are very talented.
OdpowiedzUsuńvery cool, I plan doing something similar in 15mm
OdpowiedzUsuńVery nice work!
OdpowiedzUsuńGreat work! I love seeing your sculpting. Have you done any more 15mm Mordheim recently?
OdpowiedzUsuńThanks guys, glad you like it!
OdpowiedzUsuń@Luckyjoe: not really, but I'll be doing some Averland handgunners and halberdiers as soon as I'm finished with the steam tank.
How do you plan on tackling the hobbits? I'm considering using Copplestones hobbits from their 10mm range.
OdpowiedzUsuń@Dan: I'm not sure at the moment - Copplestone's hobbits look good, but as I'm aiming for the 'Lothlorien and beyond' looks (Gandalf being an obvious exception), I will probably do some conversions based on Splintered Light Halfling Wardens (exchanging spears/bows for swords, sculpting the cloak clasps and adding a new head and backpack for Sam). I like the details on those minis and they seem to be less bulky than - for example - Chariot ones.
OdpowiedzUsuńOK, yeah that's a pretty good choice, I need to order some figs from Splintered light, was thinking of using their dark ages figs, Saxons etc for Rohan, my choice for Orks and Elves will be Eureka, though some of the SL characters are good, who do you think has the best Dwarves?
OdpowiedzUsuń@Dan: I'm using their Saxons and Romano-British miniatures for Rohirrim, they look great. As for the dwarves - the best I've seen are Demonworld ones (being republished by Ral Partha atm), but there are some good choices in SLM and 15mm.co.uk range too (see not-Gimli on the left here: http://15mm.co.uk/515_Dwarf_Warriors_I.htm). Blood Dawn sculpts are wonderful, but way too big - they actually look like fat, bearded humans when compared with SLM, 15mm.co.uk, Demonworld or Khurasan.
OdpowiedzUsuńI have that Not-Gimli as well as the other one, the not Gimli is particularly nice, just looked up the Demonworld ones, they look pretty good to, will these be based singly or in groups? what rules are you using?
OdpowiedzUsuń@Dan: I plan to keep to the same basing format I've used up to now for all my 15mm miniatures: 20mm round bases for infantry, 28mm ones for cavalry, large square bases for war machines. I plan to use GW's LotR - I've played it around 2003-2004 (FotR and TTT editions) and was very pleased with the ruleset. I've also picked up the War of the Ring - it looks like a cross between LotR and Warmaster from what I've read up to now.
